Fake Funeral notification by Dirtbags!

***UPDATE*** To This Post Is Located Here:
http://beardog321.blogspot.com/2014/01/my-eubank-funeral-update.html

I notified the real funeral home about this low-life with the following note-
"Someone is using your funeral homes good name and even colors as a phishing scheme to folks who might have recently lost a loved one. They even copied the copyright/web design by Frazer Consultants data.
This is serious, and just letting you know, and giving you a heads up, because you may be getting calls regarding it.
I did a screenshot of their notice, which I am going to post on my website."

There was a link attached which I didn't add because it can only be trouble. If someone wants it, I'll send it to you, and it starts out with:

From the Desk of:
William D. Harasym

I got the exact same notice today, but I have had no one pass that was close to me, so did some investigation and found your website. You're right these are scum dogs, and they need to get a life..

Unknown said...

I got the same fake funeral notice from the same dirtbags. I have had no one pass recently that was a close friend or relative, so I did some investigating, and found your identical notification.

Thanks for putting this out there. I just received this, and it was nice to be able to discount it without clicking on the link! I appreciate it!

Thanks for posting this! The garbage email origination is my usual tipoff:

When it's not related to the business listed I know it's a scam.

This was not funny. My father just passed away a few days ago and could not be buried due to the weather. I thought he was being transferred o another funeral home. These people deserve Karma with NO lube

Thanks for the post. I also got this email this morning. An obvious clue that something was "up" is that the date is incorrect. January 17th is on Friday this year!

Received this same email this morning at work. How low can people go.

I believe that this email is a phishing scam related to the recent Target store data theft. I wish Target would set up a place to forward things like this so they can be investigated. I have received another email from a fake energy company that I think is related to Target too.

nice that they change up the name of the "receptionist" each time. mine said:

scum of the earth.
appalling!

Unknown said...

I got the same notice. Fortunately, it arrived in my spam mail or I might not have been as wary of it. I also noticed that it didn't name the person who had supposedly passed (a big red flag!) nor the city and state of the funeral home. Are we all notifying the funeral home or just the person who launched this page?

Joy & light to all EXCEPT the dirtbag spammers!

Unknown said...

Postscript: They're not being that picky so as to choose people who have recently lost some one. I haven't lost a friend or family member in the last 10 years. They've probably just bought a spammer's mailing list and are spamming folks across the board.

Kelley Anne said...

I have to disagree about your Target related theory. I got one of these emails too, and I do so at Target often, but I haven't had a bank account in over a year and a half so they're is no way, as a cash paying customer that these scam lovers got my email from the Target data hack. People just suck and there is no one to blame but the people who did this awful scam.

I am a director at the real Eubank Funeral Home in Canton Texas. I can assure you we do not send out service invitations. We only send a email if you subscribe to our webpage that notifies you we have added a new obituary. I am very sorry to everyone who has received this. I hope we are able to find this person and punish him/her to the extent of the law.

We received the same notice today. It was particularly upsetting because we just lost two elderly parents and a third is 90 and seriously ill in a nursing home out of state.

They are disgusting, and immoral to use such a format to advertised.

same here, and the email @ was from skihi.com, a Fort Worth, TX mechanical contractor email - interesting, since we are in CT.

Anyone know what the phishing was for? I got this this morning, had recently lost someone and opened the link on my iPhone. I got an no URL error message. I hope this means my phone was not infected, but can't tell. Any advice would be appreciated...

Anonymous said...

Got one too. Looked phony, no address, no name of the departed. Didn't click the link.

Anonymous said...

I received this email as well, I attended a funeral today (at 11:00am) and was tempted to open it up...until I noticed the error with the date...so I googled same and wound up here...thanks for the heads up!

Unknown said...

I received this today, as well, but did not open it. I did a quick search and found this blog. Thanks for the heads up.

Anonymous said...

If you received this email, you should report/forward it to the FTC.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0003-phishing#report phishing emails

It's heinous and disgusting to send such a thing.

I feel so bad for the people that said they actually just lost someone close to them and then got this.

Anonymous said...

I just received this as well. The email looked suspicious so I didn't open. I have relatives near Eubank, Kentucky so I did a search just to check. Fake emails are getting to be a real problem and can be dangerous if opened. I put them on a blocked list and eventually a particular strain will cease. Unfortunately they are always replaced by others. The only way to prevent them is to change email address often. That is terribly inconvenient but works at least for a while. So many vendors sell email lists and we end up paying a high price for their greed.

Anonymous said...

I JUST received this email at 12:01 AM so that was suspicious to start. I also don't know anyone in Texas. I googled the name and found this link. Thanks. I've reported them and I suggest anyone else that gets this email reports them as well.

Anonymous said...

I looked at the real Eubank Funeral Home's website and they have a message up about the spam. I don't know if they've reported it or not.

Anonymous said...

I just got this same email. I thought for a minute or two it could be someone I knew, and that wasn't humorous at all. I didn't click on the link until I did some checking, and realized it was spam, but for a moment I thought a friend had passed.

I'm passing this along to the funeral home and to my State Attorney General. Not nice at all.

Anonymous said...

You are encouraged to forward the spam email to the federal government at - spam@uce.gov Also send it to your ISP provider at their webmaster address so they can try to track the source. Don't open the email as you know.

Anonymous said...

Actually, I was affected by the target hack and all the sudden started receiving this email and others like it. So most likely that's how they got my email address as well. Tho I am sure that is not their only source.

Jaimee said...

Yep, I got the same email this morning and like the rest of you I didn't know of anyone passing. I Googled "email from eubanks funeral home" and found this blog.Wow, the nerve of some people!

Anonymous said...

I also got it and lost two people in our families last week. This is cruel. I of course googled the funeral home and know it has nothing to do with our losses. I hope they get in trouble.

Anonymous said...

I got the exact thing today except that the name was changed to Arnav Gregory.

What a bunch of scum.

Just got this too. There is a scumbag Scott Klein here in Brooklyn who would not be above sending garbage like this.

Got the same fake email supposedly from a funeral home as well as a fake energy email saying I owed over $500 for electric and gas. I never used a credit card at Target (always pay cash) so I don't think it is related to the theft of credit card info for target purchases. But this is sinking really low to send one out pretending to be from a funeral home.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand this. Am I to believe there is nothing that can be done to the parties sending this (possibly) very cruel email. Surely the source is traceable. Is there no regulation violated here?? Can any one enlighten on this???

I received this funeral announcement email and was initially terrified to read further. I am of the age where many of my friends and relatives are starting to pass on. Even though it was suspicious with no name of the deceased and no address of the facility, emotion got the best of me and I clicked on the link on my Blackberry. Fortunately I received a message that the site was not available. Whoever is responsible for these types of scams should be fed to ravenous dogs after being smeared with hamburger meat.

The dirt bags get your names when you answer pop ups or questionnaires on the Internet. the thing to do is have an alias for you internet address and use it for questionable responses. this way if you get spammed you can delete it and make a new one without changing your primary address.

I have received three of these to date, from two separate "funeral homes". They read nearly the same. What a lousy thing to do IF you have any humanness...they apparently do not have any, nor do they have any shame. One can only hope that they will feel the range of emotions that they have put upon the recipients of these emails....you sow what you reap.

I did a google search for "condolence letter" earlier this week and received this email today with "condolence letter" as the subject. Coincidence?

I also got one of these today. The horrible thing is that 3 people I know have passed away this week - they made it sound like the funeral home was in the next town over from me so that was lame as well - I was weary from the start so did research and did not click on the link.

These evil folks have reached a new low, but to be honest, I think they are capable of far worst. They want your hard earned money, and will try and achieve that goal through any method, even this funeral home scam.

They are bastards, and need to be taken out, metaphorically of course, not assassinated, but they need to do hard time in prison, in a nice Russian Gulag.
